When
organizing our boys room, we decided on the Ikea shelving unit because
of all the different combinations you can use to hide things. When
purchasing this particular unit I always knew I wanted to make a
cushioned bench seat for the top so the kids could sit, relax, read and
play.

Kitchen Remodel-remove the space above your kitchen cabinets
I remember my mother being so excited about her "find" at Handy Andy's, a hardware store that was going out of business. The store was being liquidated and there was a display kitchen in the store that she wanted. They made a deal and she ended up getting her dream kitchen. The addition to the house was modeled around this kitchen. Kraft maid cabinets with an oak color, even the counter tops were included. I was a kid back then so I did not care much, anything was better than the metal cabinets we used to have. 20 years later, the kitchen needed some updating.
The cabinets were in great shape but there were three things I hated about the kitchen. One, the oak color to the cabinets. Two, the space above the cabinets- what do you do with that anyways?, and Three, the "model" kitchen lacked some cabinets that we desperately needed.

Annie Sloan chalk paint-giving life to an old mirror
I have had this mirror from Pottery Barn for 15+ years. I bought it in the damaged section on sale. Since then it has turned from silver to silver with a yellow haze and some spots around the edge.
DIY Floating shelves
Our first home purchase was the house I grew up in. My mother wanted to move into something that was one level and lower maintenance, and I thought it was pretty cool to have our first house be my childhood home. Ten years later, we still call this house - home. Barely recognizable from when I used to share the upstairs room with my sister. The house has gone through some transformations for each phase of our life, and continues to transform. One of the latest projects was removing the 20 year old carpet from the addition my mother had put on before we bought the house. A great addition, which created an open concept living area, left an always out of place inset that has never really served a purpose. Well now that the carpet was removed, the floor was redone and the room repainted, I decided I was going to try to give this space meaning. I started with an idea I read about from Jessica at Four Generations One Roof, tweaked the idea to serve my needs and came up with a plan.
